Hellgrammites live for 2-4 years in which time they can reach lengths of over 4"! Hellgrammites are ideal searching patterns for deep water because their big silhouette grabs a lot of attention. Though hellgrammites are well known as an excellent bait for bass they are often overlooked when it comes to trout. Trout as small as 7" have taken this pattern as large as a #4 which is a good indication of how tempting hellgrammites are for trout.
